Introduction To Safaris In Uganda

The variety of animal encounters available in such a short area is one of the things that makes Uganda such a great location to explore.

Not only are the gorilla and chimpanzee populations in the southwest of Uganda well-known, but there are also three savannah safari parks nearby that may be easily coupled with a primate safari with just a short 2-hour drive.

As a result, even a short schedule of 7–10 days can include gorilla and chimp trekking in addition to traditional savannah safaris, where you can see animals like elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards, zebras, antelopes, and buffalo, to mention a few.

The Lay of the land.

Three savannah safari parks may be found in the southwest of Uganda: Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, and Semliki Valley.

These parks are particularly popular choices because they can be readily paired with gorilla trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga and/or chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest in just a few hours of driving.

There are two savannah parks outside the southwestern pocket: Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.

In the far north of the nation, Kidepo is usually only accessible by those with extensive travel plans or particular interests. One of the best safari locations in the nation is Murchison Falls, which is frequently paired with the south-western parks.

Kidepo Valley National Park: Run riot. Kidepo is the best safari destination if you prefer your safaris to be dramatic and remote. Be forewarned: leaving is difficult. Kidepo is a pair of river basins bordered by mountains in the extreme northeast of the nation, not far from the borders with South Sudan and Kenya. This is the only location in Uganda where you can view cheetahs during the dry season. Climb into the mountains to meet the Ik, and get to know the proud Karamojong people that live around the park. Gorilla Habituation Experience

First of all we have the gorilla trekking experience in Uganda which has attracted very many people from different countries such as Congo , Rwanda , Tanzania and Kenya .This is one of the activities that is enjoyable and memorable to all the clients that always come .The trekking is done in Bwindi impenetrable national forest , and mgahinga national park .But however most of the trekking is done in Bwindi because it has the largest number of gorillas and it is also the nearest national park from Kampala .Trekking of the gorillas in Bwindi is done in mainly four sectors depending on which lodge you have spent an overnight . The sectors in this park  include Buhoma which has only 4 habituated gorilla families so far ready for trekking  , nkuringo which has 3 habituated gorilla families ready for trekking  , rushaga has 6 habituated families  ready for trekking  and lastly  ruhija which has 4 habituated families  .The trekking starts very early in the morning with a short briefing at the headquarters by the trained ranger guide who gives you the rules and the regulations of trekking the gorillas in the jungle.  The rules include do not mimic the gorillas once you reach there, do not come next to them.

Apart from the gorilla trekking, we also have the CHIMPANZEE TREKKING which is not so different from the gorillas. This is because they are all grouped as primates. This activity is usually conducted in kibale national park which is just 6 hours from Kampala to the park. The trekking starts in the morning with a briefing at the park headquarters where the clients are given rules and regulations of trekking the chimps. You are then divided into a group of 10 to 12 members who enter into the jungle and start the trekking. These are shy primates therefore they always tend to hide away from human. African savannah game drives.

The pearl of Africa is the only country that has savannah plains  which have  unique character whereby they fade and somehow dry up  during the wet season  which is not in  any other vegetation in Uganda  in the parks .A number of national parks and reserves offer game drives in the savannah plains because this is where most animals spend their time while grazing. The game drives are done in the morning and the late evenings because this is the time when most animals are moving nearer to their home steads and habitants’ forest hence this gives a chance to the travelers to see them closer compared during day time when they are grazing far in the jungle. The game drives are usually done in the primate parks such as Bwindi, mgahinga, and queen Elizabeth. However, there are also other parks where game drives are done and these include, Murchison falls, kidepo to mention but a few. During the game drives you will get to see many different animal species such as the lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, rhinos and so many others.
